1 convertible preferred stock
Finstocks that give the holder the right to exchange them at a fixed price for another security, usually common stock.EXAMPLEPreferred stocks and other convertible securities offer investors a hedge: fixed-interest income without sacrificing the chance to participate in a company’s capital appreciation.When a company does well, investors can convert their holdings into common stock that is more valuable. When a company is less successful, they can still receive interest and principal payments, and also recover their investment and preserve their capital if a more favorable investment appears.Conversion ratios and prices are key facts to know about preferred stocks. This information is found on the indenture statement that accompanies all issues. Occasionally the indenture will state that the conversion ratio will change over time. For example, the conversion price might be $50 for the first five years, $55 for the next five years, and so forth. Stock splits can affect conversion considerations.In theory, convertible preference shares (and convertible exchangeable preference shares) are usually perpetual in time. However, issuers tend to force conversion or induce voluntary conversion for convertible preference shares within ten years. Steadily increasing ordinary share dividends is one inducement tactic used. As a result, the conversion feature for preference shares often resembles that of debt securities. Call protection for the investor is usually about three years, and a 30- to 60-day call notice is typical.About 50% of convertible equity issues also have a “soft call provision.” If the ordinary share price reaches a specified ratio, the issuer is permitted to force conversion before the end of the normal protection period.The ultimate business dictionary > convertible preferred stock

( chaparreras [t∫aparéras] < chaparro [see above] plus the Spanish suffix -era 'utensil'; the preferred pronunciation in English is [Jaéps]; this pronunciation was probably influenced by the Spanish spoken along the border, where speakers often pronounce the digraph {ch} as [ J] or {sh})Wyoming: 1884 (chaps); DARE: 1887 ( chaparajos); Texas: 1892 ( chaparreras). Leather leggings worn by cowboys over regular trousers to protect their legs from brush or chaparral. They are generally made from the hides of goat, sheep, calves, bulls, and deer, but they can be made from any type of leather. They also come in many lengths and varieties, ranging from simple and practical ones to highly decorated ones with silver ornaments and animal hair left on the outside. Spanish sources reference chaparreras, but only Cobos references chaparejos (he says the word is a blend of chaparro 'shrub' and aparejo 'gear' and refers to leather leggings or chaps). However, the DARE suggests that chaparejos may be a blend of chaparreras and aparejo. The DRAE defines chaparreras as a type of tanned leather breeches used in Mexico. Santamaría adds that they are a type of pants without a seat consisting of two separate coverings for the legs that are attached to the belt by straps. They are often made of goatskin with the hair left on, and as such are also known as chivarras. They are worn over the pants and serve as a protection against rain and mud. They may also be made of puma or jaguar skin, chamois, or canvas. Islas adds that they are often open along the seams and are fastened to the legs with buckles.Alternate forms: chaparajos, chaparejos, chapareras, chapareros, chaparraros, chaparras, chaparreros, chaparro, chaparros, chaperajos, chapparejos, schapps, schaps, shaps.Clark: 1930s. A variety of chaps with short, wide leggings. Also known as buzzard wings. -

3) (Inform) pathCAMINO DE SANTIAGO The Camino de Santiago is a medieval pilgrim route stretching from the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain, where tradition has it that the body of Saint James the Apostle (Spain's patron saint) is buried. Those who had made the long, dangerous journey returned proudly wearing on their hat or cloak the venera or concha (scallop shell) traditionally associated with this pilgrimage - Saint James' body had reportedly been found covered in scallops. Today this symbolic shell can still be seen all along the Camino de Santiago, carved on ancient buildings and painted on modern-day road signs marking the historic route for the benefit of tourists and pilgrims. In astronomy the Camino de Santiago is another name for the Vía Láctea (Milky Way), hence the title of Buñuel's famous satirical film about the route to Compostela.* * *1) ( de tierra) track; ( sendero) path; ( en general) roadabrir nuevos caminos — to break new o fresh ground

Countless pilgrims made the journey from different parts of Europe to Santiago along recognized pilgrimage routes. The main one crosses the north of Spain from the Pyrenees to Galicia and is known as the Camino de Santiago. Although its religious significance has declined, it has become a popular tourist route attracting a wide range of travellers: nature lovers on day trips, hikers and cyclists, and even latter-day pilgrims, whether solitary walkers or on package tours. Many of them avail themselves of the free or low-cost accommodation provided along the way by local councils and religious institutions.* * *m1 ( senda) path;no es (todo) un camino de rosas it isn’t all a bed of roses2 INFOR path3 ( ruta) way;a medio camino halfway;de camino a on the way to;por el camino on the way;camino de on the way to;abrirse camino fig make one’s way;estar en camino be on the way;ponerse en camino set out;ir por buen/mal camino fig be on the right/wrong track;abrir camino hacia algo fig pave the way for sth;mitad de camino fig leave sth half finished* * *camino nm1) : path, road2) : journeyponerse en camino: to set off3) : waya medio camino: halfway there* * *camino n1. I told you not to touch it! ► Hay algunos usos idiomáticos en los que decir se traduce por tell aunque no lleva complemento de persona. Por ejemplo: to tell the truth (decir la verdad) y to tell a lie (decir una mentira). ¿To tell o to say?
Observa que to tell menciona a la persona a la cual va dirigida una frase: Dime tu nombre. Tell me your name. Les dijo que se fueran. He told them to go away.
Por el contrario, to say se centra en el contenido del mensaje, sin importarnos a quién va dirigido: ¿Qué has dicho? What did you say? Dijo que sí. He said yes. ➣ Ver nota en tell.

preferir ( conjugate preferir) verbo transitivo
to prefer;
preferir algo A algo to prefer sth to sth;
prefiero que te quedes I'd rather you stayed, I prefer you to stay
preferir verbo transitivo to prefer: prefiero quedarme en casa, I'd rather stay at home
To prefer aparece en distintas construcciones. Puede llevar un sustantivo ( I prefer coffee), un infinitivo con to ( I prefer to swim) o un gerundio ( I prefer swimming). Cuando comparas dos cosas, puede llevar un sustantivo más to más otro sustantivo ( I prefer coffee to tea), un gerundio más to más otro gerundio ( I prefer swimming to running) o un infinitivo con to más rather than más otro infinitivo sin to o un gerundio: I prefer to swim rather than run o I prefer to swim rather than running.
Las estructuras con infinitivo expresan preferencias específicas y muchas veces se introducen con would: I would prefer to... Si existe complemento directo, entonces sólo se puede emplear el infinitivo con to: I would prefer you to... Preferiría que tú...
También puedes emplear would rather ( would para todas las personas) más el infinitivo sin to: I would rather go home. Preferiría irme a casa. Si existe complemento directo, el verbo aparece en pasado simple: I would rather you went home. Preferiría que te fueras a casa.
